>> An Introduction To Tully
Lush greenery ringed by mountains, Tully has the reputation of being the wettest place in Australia, averaging over 4000mm of rain a year. Thanks to all that rain, the nearby Tully River is one of the best places in Australia to go white water rafting. It has excellent rapids that range from easy Grade One to the more challenging Grade Six. So whether you are a keen rafter or a first time contender, you can do it and you will enjoy it!
Tully National Park also boasts spectacular gorges and stunning walking tracks where you can spot pretty butterflies. Alligator’s nest offers you a safe place to swimming, despite the name, and a great spot to relax and picnic.
Settled by the Chinese, who pioneered banana plantations at the beginning of the 20th century, Tully is one of Queensland's largest producers of bananas and sugar cane. It is also a fruit-picking Mecca for backpackers. Take a drive along huge plantations and visit the interesting site of Tully Sugar Mill.
Stroll in the charming main street full of 1930s-50s shop facades. Feel the friendly ambience of this small hinterland town and enjoy the beautiful waterway network flowing back onto roaring jungle. And don't forget to climb on top of the 7.9 metre tall Golden Gumboot!
Tully provides a glimpse of what Queensland country towns would have once looked like.
